Happy Sunday everyone! I continue with my short story “The Angel Genome” in the “Extinct doesn’t mean forever” Anthology. π
The doctor is explaining to Lucia what sets Zeph apart – why he’s refer to as an “angel” even though he is a child cloned from remains found that are almost human.
“His clavicles have dorsal protrusions, which have been developing. The possibility of growing real wings, even if theyβre vestigial, is ever present. And some of the samples have shown promising implications for the cure of a number of immunity-related diseases.β
Wings. Samples. Needles and pain.
Visit next week for more! π
Great setup! Poor Zeph – sounds like he’s in for a lifetime of pain, both emotional and physical.
Kind of a sad six – a person being described as an experiment. Interesting read.
I can already see how his own value as a being is not going to be considered. :/
love your voice in this snippet… fab six!
I think Zeph needs a new place to live. I’m voting that he get away as fast as possible. Great six!
He needs to get away. Needles and pain. Yuck.
aww, poor guy! Hoping he finds acceptance for what he is soon π
I can see why your tory was chosen. Nicely done.
Fun read-I’m bio teacher so I enjoyed the anatomy references.
Clinical detail makes it feel real, and it’s deployed skillfully here in what’s clearly an excerpt from a medical record. Nicely done.
Always such intriguing snippets. I went and bought it after last week’s. π
more and more interesting… thank you! π
Intriguing snippet – interested to see where it goes
Ouch! Sounds like a science experiment. He needs to escape. I’ll help!! π
wings and needles and pain – poor guy.
I so agree with Cate, a great set-up. Thank you for a fantastic snippet.
That last bit really caught my interest. I want him to escape! No more needles and pain.
Definitely an intriguing snippet
Perhaps a slightly different genre of book, but this reminds me of, “Wave Theory of Angels” by Alison MacLeod.
I’m interested to see where you will take this.
Is Lucia going to try to save Zeph from being “cured?” Great hook!
Well that sums up humans for you – find something interesting, stick needles in it! :-/
Thank you so much! Hope you like it! π
I don’t know this book, I will check it out. Thanks!
Thank you all for your great comments! π
Oh, that poor baby. Poor Zeph. Lucia’s put her finger on it, indeed.
